In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world,” “I am the bread of life,” and other “I am” statements. These words provide beautiful images of what our crucified and risen Lord came to accomplish for us and for the whole world. In today’s reading from John 15:1-8, Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches.” In this sermon, Pastor Paige dives into the ways this promise fuels our spiritual growth and helps us turn away from toxic vines that try to gain a foothold in our hearts. She invites listeners to stay connected to Jesus as his disciples, and bear fruit together as the body of Christ.

In many ways, we are not a generous society. Our culture pushes us to be defensive, impatient, argumentative, self-centered, and often selfish. How can we resist this pressure? In this sermon, based on 1 John 3:16-24, Pastor Eric challenges us to see the practice of financial generosity as a "rudder" for our souls. If you are concerned that "this is just another time a church wants money," Pastor Eric won't argue, but he will say, don't let that feeling let you off the hook from being generous; find another avenue, one you are comfortable with, to sacrifice financially. Why? Because giving is not only good for the receiver, but for the giver as well.

In First John 3:1-7, the apostle sound like he is saying that sinless perfection is the expectation for Christians. But what if that's not the case? What if he is saying that our sins are outward evidence of deeper, inward, spiritual problems? In this sermon, Pastor Eric encourages us to rest in the truth that in Christ, God has called us his children, and challenges us to consider "where our hearts live." Do you want to deal with superficial problems, or get to the heart of the matter?

There’s a striking contrast between joyful parade noise and the silence of the crucifixion in today’s worship experience. We begin the service with the Procession of Palms as we welcome Jesus into Jerusalem. We end with Jesus lying in the tomb. It looks like his ministry has ended with his death on the cross. In this sermon on the passion story from Mark 15:1-47, Pastor Paige asks listeners to focus on Jesus’ quiet confidence in God’s plan as he suffers and dies for us. His trust in his heavenly Father is a model for our relationship with God as we journey with Jesus through the events of Holy Week, and as we wait with hope for Jesus’ resurrection on Easter.

Ever feel like you're going through the motions? Like you're stuck on the surface of things? In this sermon based on John 12:20-33, Pastor Eric invites us to consider "fake life," lived only for ourselves, and "real life," a life of meaning, substance and impact, lived in love for others. To escape superficial existence and step into the full life God intends, we need the grace and power of the Cross.

The beloved verse, “For God so loved the world…” (John 3:16) in today’s Bible readings is part of a larger story about how God loved the world, and saved the world, in an unexpected way. In this sermon on Numbers 21:4-9 and John 3:14-21, Pastor Paige asks listeners to consider how the cross of Jesus has saved them from sin, given them the gift of God’s grace, and inspired them to share God’s unconditional love with the people in their lives.

How free are you? What does freedom look like? In this sermon based on Exodus 20:1-17, Pastor Eric challenges the "no rules" version of freedom in our culture. How does God's Law protect our true human freedom? But can following the rules ever be enough? Even though God's Law is necessary, we need the Gospel power of Jesus to be truly free.

As our Lenten journey to the cross of Christ continues, Jesus teaches us how to follow him more faithfully. In this sermon on Mark 8:31-38, Pastor Paige focuses on Jesus’ instructions to take up our crosses and follow him. What does that mean? How do we obey Jesus’ instructions in our daily lives? You will come away from Jesus’ teaching and today’s sermon with a better understanding of how carrying your cross shapes you into a more faithful disciple. You will learn how you can make a difference for the people in your life as you model your daily acts of service after Jesus and his selfless love.

What battle are you fighting? Our Gospel reading from Mark 1:9-15 tells how Jesus began his ministry with a spiritual struggle in the wilderness. In this sermon, Pastor Eric challenges us to see that our real battles are never with circumstances or against other people; our real fights are the inner, spiritual battles. The story of Jesus in the wilderness will give you guidance and encouragement to rely on Jesus and his power, so that through the real battles, you may grow into the fullness of Christ.

On Transfiguration Sunday, Jesus appeared in a blaze of blinding light on the top of a mountain. The disciples with him, Peter, James, and John, were startled by what they saw and heard, especially when the voice of God sounded out from heaven. In this sermon on Mark 9:2-9, Pastor Paige explores how the Transfiguration helps us see our daily words and actions in a new light. As disciples of Jesus, God calls us to show others what our faith means to us, and to shine the light of Jesus for those around us. Through this sermon and our worship together, may you be filled with the light of Christ. May you be inspired to shine it for others.

Hearing Mark’s vivid descriptions of Jesus’ ministry, you might wonder where Jesus got the energy and patience to heal so many people, cast out so many demons, and preach the good news of the Kingdom of God, seemingly nonstop. In this sermon on Mark 1:29-39, Pastor Paige highlights two things Jesus focused on in his daily life to stay balanced between personal encounters where he healed individuals, and public acts where he created wholeness for entire communities. Listen to this sermon to find out what those two things are that Jesus did consistently, and how we can apply those to our lives of faith and keep our balance as his disciples.

We continue last week's theme of purpose and meaning, this time beyond the personal level and looking at the highest intentions of a church community. In this sermon based on Mark 2:1-12, Pastor Eric encourages us to find our hope in the loving authority and power of Jesus, and then challenges us: are we "carrying the mats" for our neighbors who need Jesus too, or are we like the crowds in the Gospel story who won't make room for someone in desperate need?

What's the point of it all? We try to get ourselves (or our kids) into "a good college," we work, we save... we all know the drill. It's life as we know it. But where's it getting us? Jesus offers a different vision for us, a life of freedom, power, and meaning. It doesn't sound heroic. It's not easy or convenient. There are no magic bullets or shortcuts. But it is, in reality, a spiritual journey into our highest purpose. In this sermon based on Mark 1:14-20, Pastor Eric invites us to consider how Jesus is calling us to "follow him," and what we might need to leave behind.

Jesus invites you to follow him and live the joyful and abundant life of being his disciple. In today’s gospel reading from John 1:43-51, Jesus calls his first disciples. Each one has a unique reaction to his call. In this sermon, Pastor Paige shares God’s promise that he seeks us and finds us because he loves us, even when we try to hide. Jesus knows that as individual disciples and as a church community, we have the ability to share with others the amazing love that God offers. Jesus invites us to “Come and see” what a life following him is like. When we respond by saying “yes!” and becoming his disciples, we get to live a life that’s better than anything we could create on our own.
