Our reading from 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 involves a topic that probably seems obscure to us: whether or not it is permissible for Christians to eat food that has been sacrificed to idols. But the issues underneath this question, and the way the Apostle Paul resolves it, resonate deeply with our needs for community and the kind of spiritual environment where we can grow in God’s grace.
