Merry Christmas! Welcome to Reformation’s online Christmas Eve worship as we celebrate the birth of God made flesh, Jesus Christ. We hope that this time of music, Scripture, prayer, preaching, candlelight, and praise will open your heart to the wonder of the Christ Child.

In the Christmas Gospel of Luke 2:1-20, we see Emperor Augustus showing his control over the world by calling a registration. “Control” is such a human response to fear, pain, or uncertainty. But we also see the actions of another, heavenly King, who sees the brokenness of our lost world, but does not respond by taking control. In the birth of Jesus, something so much greater than control is found. In him, there is healing, hope, and salvation. Come, let us adore him!

In Luke 3:7-18, John the Baptist gives a fiery message of repentance. But what if he isn’t just an angry scold? What if he is “preparing the way” for new life, hope, joy, and peace? That is what the Savior brings. But if we keep on doing what we’ve always done, thinking how we’ve always thought, and making the same choices we’ve always made, we will end up rejecting the Christ child when he comes. Our “operating system” needs an update. Our system needs to be rebooted. John the Baptist shows the way.

Advent is a season of waiting for Jesus to come at Christmas and at the end of time. John the Baptist is a key figure during Advent as he prepares the way for Jesus. In this sermon on two of today’s readings, Luke 1:68-79 and Luke 3:1-6, Pastor Paige dives into John’s role and shares how he inspires us to actively grow in our faith and intentionally share Jesus’ love during the Advent season.

In this sermon based on Luke 21:25-36, Pastor Eric helps us to see that the promise of Christ's return gives us power when the world is not the way it's supposed to be.

It’s Christ the King Sunday, which means that it’s the end of the church year. Like the end of the calendar year, it’s a good time to pause and reflect on our commitment to our faith and our actions over the past year. How have we been giving Jesus, our crucified and risen King, the glory as we live out our lives? How have we been using our gifts and skills to serve him and build up his kingdom of love and peace? Those are some of the question Pastor Paige asks in this sermon, which focuses on the second reading, Revelation 1:4b-8. May you be blessed on this Christ the King Sunday as you hear all that Jesus Christ has done for you, and give thanks to him for the gift of eternal life!

Jesus gave up his life for us. Are we fully giving ourselves to his mission in response? That’s the question posed by the vivid story from Mark 12:38-44 about Jesus teaching in the temple courts. In this sermon, Pastor Paige describes about how the widow who gave two small coins helps us examine our own discipleship and increase our commitment to walking in the way of Jesus.

On All Saints' Sunday, we remember those who have died in Christ and we explore what it means for us to be called saints of God. On this Commitment Sunday, we make estimates of giving for 2025. What links these two is the faith created by the promise that because of the cross of Christ, death doesn't win, and the mission Jesus has for us to share that Good News. Listen, and be encouraged and challenged!

It’s an exciting Sunday at Reformation! Three young people are affirming their baptism with the Rite of Confirmation, it’s the second week of our generosity series, and it’s Reformation Sunday! Did you ever wonder if you were "made for more than this?" Do you worry if your life matters? In this sermon from Mark 10:35-45, Pastor Eric helps us to see where our true worth comes from, and how to discover the true greatness God has created us all for. As we begin our annual stewardship campaign with the theme, "The God-Centered Life," we are called to follow the pattern of Jesus, who gave his life for our salvation.

Today’s passage is memorable because Jesus says it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of God. Why does Jesus say this? Who does he say it to? How can this seemingly impossible claim make a difference in how we live as Jesus’ disciples? These are some of the questions Pastor Paige addresses in today’s sermon on Mark 10:17-31. Jesus says that in the kingdom of God, “the last shall be first and the first shall be last.” Even as we wrestle with the ways Jesus turns the wisdom of the world upside down, these words guide us as his disciples. They help us truly see others, and love and serve others, with Jesus’ selfless and generous love.

Mark 10:2-16 has, sadly, been used to shame and exclude people whose marriages have failed. But when we look deeply at Jesus' teaching, we will find a new vision not just for marriage, but for all forms of community. God's intention for our relationships is far greater than what our culture has taught us!

"Submit" is not a word that sits well with most of us. But the truth is, there is no life that doesn't involve some form of surrender. In this sermon based on James 3:13-4:3, 7-8a and Mark 9:30-37, Pastor Eric explores how even people who spent the most time with Jesus could still end up stuck in self-centered thinking. The problem comes when we don't grasp the power of Jesus' death and resurrection for us. This brings us to a leap of faith: we can either submit to the Lord who loves us enough to give his life for us, or end up surrendering to the worst parts of ourselves.

Sometimes a hero doesn’t look like a hero. In today’s sermon on Mark 8:27-34, Pastor Paige dives into the conversation between Jesus and his disciples, and Jesus’ question, “Who do you say that I am?” When he answers, Peter correctly calls Jesus, “the Messiah," but he doesn’t understand what that means. When Jesus explains what is to come with his life, death, and resurrection, Peter’s eyes are opened to a whole new way of understanding his Messiah and his Lord. It’s important for us to truly understand who Jesus is, as well. How we answer his question, “Who do you say that I am?” makes a big difference for our faith, for how we live, and for how we follow Jesus as his disciples.

In Mark 7:24-37, we encounter Jesus seeming to treat a woman seeking help in a rude, even dehumanizing way. And then he uses spit to heal a deaf man. In this sermon, Pastor Eric helps us to avoid the temptation to “explain” the strangeness, and instead let it lead us into a curious, humble posture, where we can hear, from Jesus, a “no” that might sting at first, be leads, ultimately, to his great “YES” for you.
