In two of our readings today, Isaiah 45:1-7 and Matthew 22:15-22, God the Father and Jesus the Son surprise the people in the story. In Isaiah, God commissions an unexpected person to fulfill God's purposes. In Matthew, the religious leaders try to trap Jesus over the matter of taxes. In both stories, the Father and the Son show that just when humans think they have them figured out, they do something that shows how they are operating on the divine level, on a level that no one could have expected. In this sermon, Pastor Paige points out how these stories turn around and ask us: how are we acting as if we know the extent of their power? How are we limiting the activity of God and Jesus in our lives?
We invite you to use the “Support Reformation’s Ministry” button above to invest in our ministry. At that link, you will find ways to make online donations to provide the resources needed for our church to keep on reaching out with the love of Jesus. Thank you for your generous support!
