April 25, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (How Can I Have A More Abundant Life?)

How can I have a more abundant life?

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service.

With the pandemic causing so many disruptions, we can all likely name aspects of our lives that feel stagnant or depleted. That reality makes the good news of the Easter season all the more meaningful, especially on this Sunday as we celebrate Jesus being our good shepherd, who lays down his life for us, his sheep. In this sermon on Psalm 23 and John 10:10b-18, Pastor Paige suggests practical ways to help us discover and live out the abundant life Jesus offers, and to share it with others.

This is a recording of our 9am Sunday service, followed by a recording of a joyful baptism held on Saturday, April 24. We hope you will watch the baptism and witness this act of God’s grace, as social distancing requirements keep us from celebrating baptisms in our regular Sunday service for the time being.

There is much to cause us to lament in the news. Mass shootings (again), the deaths of Daunte Wright, Adam Toledo, and George Floyd. Leaders who seem to want to stoke division. It is the call of Christians to lament when others suffer. But we also have good news to challenge the powers of sin and death. In this sermon from Luke 24:36-48, Pastor Eric invites us to discover the hope and power of the resurrected Jesus. Even when it looks like nothing can be repaired, there is hope and healing in his grace!

The story of Jesus’ resurrection in the Gospel of Mark, Mark 16:1-8, is short and packed with good news. The women who first hear of the resurrection react in a curious way. They were prepared to encounter Jesus’ lifeless body, and instead they were told he was no longer in the tomb. He was alive! In this Easter sermon, Pastor Paige invites listeners to receive the gift of Jesus’ resurrection with joy, and to follow their risen Lord with hearts full of hope.

After the service, we invite you to fill out an online response card here. Also, if you are able, we invite you to partner with us by financially supporting Reformation here. Your generosity allows us to bring the hope of Jesus to Milford and beyond during this time of pandemic. Thank you!

Good Friday Worship (Why Did Jesus Die? April 2, 2021)

Why did Jesus die? What comes to an end at the Cross? Whose fault is it? On Good Friday, we hear the story of Christ’s Passion, or his suffering and death, in John chapters 18-19. It is hard to hear. But it is the story of our salvation. Hope is at the cross. Mercy is at the cross. When we see Jesus dying, we see the source of our life.

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and faith.

In uncertain times, it’s comforting to hear that Jesus knows what is happening. On his last night with his disciples, Jesus knows what he needs to do to fulfill God’s plan for our salvation and for the salvation of the world. In this Maundy Thursday sermon on John 13:1-17, 31b-35, Pastor Paige urges listeners to trust in Jesus as he acts on his knowledge and offers his abundant love to all, even to those who denied and betrayed him.

Our Holy Week worship will continue tomorrow with another pre-recorded service for Good Friday. Easter Sunday online worship will be live streamed at 9:00am here.

The words of some people in Jerusalem who tell Jesus’ disciples, “we wish to see Jesus,” express our own longings to see and know our Savior. In this sermon on John 12:20-33, Pastor Paige points out why their request to see Jesus is important for us in our faith journey, especially now at the end of the pandemic, and how we can live as servants of God who allow others to see Jesus through our words and actions.

On the Wednesdays in Lent, we are offering a 7pm interactive Zoom Bible study to help you go deeper in the Sunday Scripture readings. On our Facebook page, you’ll find instructions for how you can sign up for this time of reconnecting with fellow Reformation members and growing in faith.

The Christian way of viewing life is far more unusual than we tend to think. The way the Bible tells the story is both far worse than we would like to think, and far better than we would ever dare hope to imagine. In this sermon based on Ephesians 2:1-10, Pastor Eric invites us to discover God’s purpose for our life, made possible by his great mercy and love. Trusting in Jesus, we can step into a far higher, more challenging life of faith.

We live in a “you do you” world. But even though we are all supposed to be the experts on our own happiness, we are more isolated and unfulfilled than ever. Today, Pastor Eric leads us through Psalm 19, helping us to discover Jesus as God’s covenant of faithfulness with us. In Christ, we can discover life that is real and eternal.

As we continue through Lent, a key conversation between Jesus and Peter unfolds as the disciples travel with Jesus in Mark 8:27-38. Peter identifies Jesus correctly as “the Messiah,” but then is surprised when Jesus defines that title in a radically new way. Pastor Paige invites listeners to consider the titles they bear, and how prioritizing one particular title above all others makes a difference for their lives.

On this first Sunday in Lent, we read Mark 1:9-15 and hear about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. He announces a new Kingdom, a new way of life. Pastor Eric’s sermon helps us to see this Kingdom, in contrast with the kingdom of the world, by looking at the “directions” found in this Gospel reading.

Ash Wednesday (February 17, 2021) Worship

We welcome you to Reformation’s Ash Wednesday worship. Today marks the beginning of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. We begin this season of penitence with a service focused on confessing our sin to the Lord, who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.

In a time when we have already given up so many things, let Ash Wednesday and Lent be a time of setting our hearts on the love and mercy of Christ, who takes our sins away and gives us new life.

This service includes a postlude of reflective music; we encourage you to continue to pray, confess, and meditate on the love of God during that time.

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will not only encourage you, but also empower you to reflect the love and glory of Christ to others.

This is a festival day, the celebration of The Transfiguration of Our Lord. The gospel lesson from Mark 9:2-9 tells the story of Jesus transfigured in dazzling light on a mountaintop. A few of his closest disciples witness Jesus shining with the glory of God. What will they do with that vision? How will it change them? In this sermon, Pastor Paige invites listeners to look upon Jesus, transfigured on the mountain, and to consider how they, too, are changed by seeing our Lord in this new and inspiring way. We hope you will continue to pursue your faith journey with daily devotions that can be downloaded here.

What does a life shaped by Christ look like? The story of Jesus healing Simon’s mother-in-law and then pulling back from the crowds to pray shows us what it could mean for us to be made well and whole by God’s mercy and grace. We hope you will continue to pursue your faith journey with daily devotions that can be downloaded here.

Our reading from 1 Corinthians 8:1-13 involves a topic that probably seems obscure to us: whether or not it is permissible for Christians to eat food that has been sacrificed to idols. But the issues underneath this question, and the way the Apostle Paul resolves it, resonate deeply with our needs for community and the kind of spiritual environment where we can grow in God’s grace. We hope you will continue to pursue your faith journey with daily devotions that can be downloaded here.
