September 26, 2021 Worship Service (Water for a Thirsty World)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

“I want to follow Jesus as his disciple, but when I try to live out my faith, the things I do are so small, I don’t know if they really matter.” If you’ve ever questioned how you’re doing as a disciple, or wondered if your small actions are enough to consider yourself a faithful follower of Jesus, today’s reading from Mark 9:38-50 contains a message of encouragement for you. As Jesus teaches his disciples what it means to serve him, he says some surprising things about how the Kingdom of God works and how those who desire to follow Jesus can be a part of its mission. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores how our small acts of love lead to a big impact for those around us, and she describes the joy of being a part of expanding the Kingdom of God here on earth.

Our daily devotional guide will help you to go deeper into Sunday’s readings throughout the coming week. It has reflections on today’s Scripture passages, prayer guides, and a schedule of psalms for you to read and pray. You can download them by clicking here.

After the service, we invite you to fill out an online response card here. Also, if you are able, we invite you to partner with us by financially supporting Reformation here. Your generosity allows us to bring the hope of Jesus to Milford and beyond during this time of pandemic. Thank you!

September 19, 2021 Worship Service (Black Hole or Supernova?)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

The guiding mindset of our day is consumerism: what matters most is we can choose to get the things that we think will make us happy. This vision of the good life, though, is toxic. It is deadly to community and it destroys our true purpose. In this sermon, Pastor Eric uses the analogy of black holes and supernovas to explore how greatness, meaning, purpose, consumerism, sacrifice, and glory are found in our readings from Mark 9:30-37 and James 3:13-4:3, 6-8a.

September 12, 2021 Worship Service (Building Up, or Burning Down?)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Your words matter. They can wound, or they can heal. They can create hope, or spread condemnation. Our words can shine the light of truth, or spread illusions and lies. But what comes out of our mouths is an expression of the content of our souls. So if we want to speak love and truth and healing, our souls need to be filled with the power of God. In this sermon, based on James 3:1-12, Pastor Eric challenges us to really consider how our speech impacts others, and how we can be transformed to speak words that create life and build community.

September 5, 2021 Worship Service (Don't Give Up)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

We are drawn to Jesus’ healing miracles throughout the gospels, as he cures people’s physical ailments and casts out demons. In today’s reading from Mark 7:24-27, we hear a healing story that doesn’t follow the usual pattern. It takes us by surprise. Why is Jesus to reluctant to heal in this instance? How does the person who comes to Jesus in need respond? In this sermon, Pastor Paige focuses on what we can learn from this puzzling healing story for our faith and life, and how it encourages us to approach Jesus boldly and persistently with our deepest needs.

August 29, 2021 Worship Service (Tired of the Division?)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Our world is so obviously divided and angry. So many of our judgments come from looking at external things, especially political issues, without considering the deeper matters of the heart. This is the situation Jesus faced in our reading from Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23. And the superficial tribalism leads only to hypocrisy and anger. But, in this sermon drawing mainly from James 1:17-27, Pastor Eric challenges us to find another way, the slow, deep way of spiritual renewal and transformation through God’s Word.

August 22, 2021 Worship Service (After the Feast)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

For five weeks, we’ve been feasting at Jesus’ table and hearing the good news from John 6:56-69, as well as from previous readings from John 6, that Jesus is the bread of life. Today, God calls us to return to our daily lives as those who have enjoyed the rich feast that is made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores our reading from Joshua 24:1-2a, 4-18, which inspires us to take the bread of life into the world and serve the Lord with faithfulness.

Our daily devotions are “on hold” for now, but will return soon!

After the service, we invite you to fill out an online response card here. Also, if you are able, we invite you to partner with us by financially supporting Reformation here. Your generosity allows us to bring the hope of Jesus to Milford and beyond during this time of pandemic. Thank you!

August 15, 2021 Worship Service (Full and Foolish)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Our lives are so full. Our minds overflow with distractions. If we’re honest, our souls can be a little full of ourselves. But all this fullness means we have little room to receive the Bread of Life, Jesus. All our efforts to keep things under our control keep us from hearing the invitation of God’s Wisdom. In this sermon based on Proverbs 9:1-6 and John 6:51-58, Pastor Eric invites us to look at how full we are, and to consider how that fullness keeps us from receiving the life Jesus wants to give us.

Our daily devotions are “on hold” for now, but will return soon!

August 8, 2021 Worship Service (Food That Strengthens)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Christian discipleship calls us into a new kind of life. Following Jesus isn’t just a checklist of “do’s” and “do not’s” that you can tack onto your everyday routine. It’s a reordering of our souls, and Ephesians 4:25-5:2 describes it well. But how can that ideal ever become a reality for us? It’s beyond our ability. But if we are fed by the Bread of Life (John 6:25, 41-51), we are given strength beyond our own. When Jesus feeds us with his own presence, things are made new.

Our daily devotions are “on hold” for now, but will return soon!

August 1, 2021 Worship Service (The Bread That Satisfies)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Today’s reading from John 6:24-35 picks up after Jesus miraculously fed over 5,000 people with a boy’s small lunch of bread and fish. The crowd that enjoyed that feast pursues Jesus, seeking more bread. In this sermon, Pastor Paige points out the ways Jesus taught the crowd that he came to offer the world a whole lot more than one free meal. Jesus wants us all to know that he is the bread of life for all who believe in him.

Our daily devotions are “on hold” for now, but will return soon!

July 4, 2021 Worship Service (How Can I Be Transformed?)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Life isn’t really about us. One of the things that can most hold us back from the transformation we long for and the spiritual maturity and freedom that would let us step into a hopeful, powerful future is that we are too stuck on ourselves. Today, Pastor Eric looks at Jesus sending his disciples out in Mark 6:1-13 and calls us to stop spinning our wheels and to trust in Christ, who is the only one who can get us moving to where we’re supposed to be.

Our daily devotions are “on hold” for the month of July, but will return in August!

After the service, we invite you to fill out an online response card here. Also, if you are able, we invite you to partner with us by financially supporting Reformation here. Your generosity allows us to bring the hope of Jesus to Milford and beyond during this time of pandemic. Thank you!

June 27, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Interruption or Opportunity?)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

In two interrelated healing stories from Mark 5:21-43, Jesus shows that he is never too busy to stop and help someone. During his ministry on earth, interruptions were an opportunity for Jesus to bring the power of God’s kingdom into the lives of ordinary people. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores how the characters in these stories have faith in Jesus’ ability to heal their specific problems, and how Jesus ultimately will heal the whole world through his death on the cross and his resurrection to eternal life.

June 20, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Into the Storm!)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

You can’t avoid life’s storms. Sometimes, the world throws you into a tailspin and it feels like you’re going under. In Mark 4:35-41, we hear the story of Jesus and his disciples caught in a storm on the sea. Pastor Eric shows us how this story teaches us face life’s storms, and why we will never grow in faith if we expect God to always give us smooth sailing and blue skies.

June 13, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Keep Going, Keep Sowing!)

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

Jesus teaches about the Kingdom of God in Mark 4:26-34 with the images of a bountiful harvest from scattered seeds, and a magnificent shrub that grows from a tiny mustard seed. In this sermon, Pastor Paige points out how Jesus’ parables encourage us today as we watch for glimpses of God’s kingdom breaking into our ordinary lives. God’s power is always at work, and we get to participate in it as citizens of his kingdom. What’s more, when plant small seeds of love and serve our neighbor, God takes our small efforts and makes them grow beyond what we could ever expect.

June 6, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Escaping Blame & Shame)

It’s a familiar story: we mess up, and rather than deal with it, we blame everyone else. It’s also an old story. Today, learn how it can change!

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9:00am service.

In Genesis 3:8-15, we hear the story of Adam and Eve hiding from God in shame over their disobedience, and then blaming each other for their predicament. Don’t we do the same thing? Don’t we blame other people for what’s going on inside of us? Don’t we try to keep God at arm’s length? Pastor Eric leads us to find hope and healing in God’s simple question: “Where are you?”

May 30, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Senior Quilt Presentation)

On this Holy Trinity Sunday, we celebrate Reformation’s graduates and welcome Pastor Gordon Simmons as guest preacher.

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. [This recording, of our 11:00 service, is only from one “wide angle” camera perspective. Due to a technical glitch (not the fault of the live stream operator!), the 9:00 service, with multiple camera angles, did not record locally. Once we are able to get that version off of YouTube’s live stream servers, we will replace this version with the better one. We appreciate your patience!]

Reformation is pleased to welcome Pastor Gordon Simmons as our guest preacher today. He is with us in his capacity serving the Delaware Lutheran Office for Public Policy, and calls us to reflect on how our Christian faith informs our understanding of public policy.

Please watch beyond the end of today’s service to see the presentation of Senior Quilts to our two graduating high school seniors, as well as a slide show to tell you about our high school and college graduates. We are proud of them, and look forward to seeing where God will continue to lead them!

May 23, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Atheists Are Right??)

You might think I’m kidding, but most atheists are right. Huh?

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9am Sunday service.

In Acts 2:1-21, we hear the amazing story of the coming of the Holy Spirit to transform the group of Jesus’ disciples into the earthly temple of God’s presence. That’s what the Church is! We have been re-created, in our baptisms, to be the place where God dwells and can be found. But when the Church does not live up to this high and holy calling, we fail to show the world who God is. And so the world gets a smaller picture of God, one that atheists are right to reject. This is why we need the Holy Spirit!

May 16, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (From Followers to Leaders)

“I’m not a leader…” Or are you? How has Jesus put you in a position to influence the world with his grace?

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9am Sunday service.

In John 17:6-19, Jesus prays for his disciples before he completes his mission of dying on the cross and rising again to save the world. He asks God to fill his followers with joy, and to shape them into leaders to carry on his work of bringing hope, healing, and peace to all. Pastor Paige invites listeners to let Jesus’ prayer transform them from followers to leaders, so more and more people may experience God’s love and grace through us.

May 9, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (The Joy of God)

Is there anything to the idea that religion is about rules, but Jesus is about love?

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9am Sunday service.

All you need is love, right? It’s a common stereotype to talk about religion as being all about rules, but Jesus was just about love. Well, what happens when love is hard? It turns out that we need something more than love, if we are to love others. But it isn’t more guilt or fear; rather, it is the joy of God. Our sermon today comes from John 15:9-17 and draws on 1 John 5:1-6.

May 2, 2021 Worship Service & Devotions (Shaped by Grace or Glass?)

Are you shaped more by the grace of God, or by the glass of your screens?

We are so glad you’re joining Reformation for online worship! We hope that this time of prayer, song, and hearing the Word of God will help you to go deeper in your relationship with Jesus and grow in your love and service. This is a recording of our 9am Sunday service.

In our Gospel reading from John 15:1-8, Jesus uses the beautiful image of a vine and branches to describe our relationship to him. When we are connected to him, his life and love and truth flow into us. But if we give more of our attention to the messages of anxiety and selfishness that come through all the screens in our life than we give to Jesus, then those messages will shape us more than Jesus will. This is our challenge. But the grace of Jesus is greater than the glass of our screens.
