.Jesus’ Parable of the Sower gives us the opportunity to be honest about the obstacles to faith we face in our busy modern lives. In this sermon, Pastor Paige invites listeners to reflect on the different types of soil Jesus talks about in Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23, and on the things that get in the way of God’s word sinking deep into their hearts. Jesus’ parable ends with an abundant harvest. That harvest is possible for us when we trust in Jesus to help us overcome obstacles to faith. No matter what kinds of soil we’ve been in the past, when we open our ears to God’s word and believe his promises, he will help our faith to grow. It will become fruitful for the sake of those God calls us to serve.

One of the reasons why life can be so exhausting in our day is that there is an expectation that we will say the right things or send the right messages to show that "I'm one of the good people." In Matthew 11:16-19 & 25-30, Jesus speaks to this cultural expectation that we "perform" our virtue for others to approve. It'll never work. In this sermon, Pastor Eric lifts up Jesus' invitation for us to find rest in him and learn his ways of wisdom.

While this sermon stands alone, it also serves as a Part 2 to Pastor Paige’s June 18 sermon, “Harvest Season.” The two weeks cover the beginning and the conclusion of Jesus’ instructions to his disciples for the mission work he sends them out to do in his name. In today’s sermon, focusing on Matthew 10:40-42, Jesus encourages the disciples by telling them that when people welcome them, they are welcoming Jesus. When they welcome Jesus, they are welcoming Jesus’ heavenly Father, who sent him. This is also a reassuring message for us as Jesus’ disciples today. Pastor Paige helps listeners recognize the strength of their own connections and urges them to open their hearts to receive God’s rich rewards, as we carry out Jesus’ mission in the places where we live and serve.

In John 8, Jesus calls himself "the light of the world." In today's sermon, Pastor Eric invites us to see ourselves, God, our neighbors, and the world all in the light of Jesus. The clarity and truth we find in his illumination will set our hearts free. But, the truth takes time. Will you let the eyes of your soul adjust to the light of Jesus?

In today’s story from Matthew 9:35-10:20, Jesus trusts his disciples with big responsibilities: to cure diseases, cast out demons, and share the good news that God’s Kingdom has come near. Because God’s harvest is so plentiful, Jesus invites the disciples to join him in his work of freeing people from fear and giving them the hope and peace they long for. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores how Jesus calls and equips his closest friends to be his ambassadors. Jesus continues to call and equip us as his apostles, too. Together, we can spread the good news of the risen Jesus’ love and grace, and invite more people to experience the joy of God’s kingdom.

There is a human temptation to minimize suffering and to minimize sin, whether our own or others'. We don't want to face hard truths. But in our Gospel reading today from Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26, we see that the love and grace of Jesus is greater than even the hardest of truths. In a culture so driven by shame, blame, and fear, the mercy of Jesus gives us the freedom to be honest, and the hope that he can make us new.

Trinity Sunday comes around every year. It can be a challenge to grasp the one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In this sermon, Pastor Paige draws upon images of the Trinity from the Apostle Paul’s farewell in 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, and from Jesus’ last words to his disciples in Matthew 28:16-20, to help hearers experience the way our faith in the Triune God shapes our identity and gives our lives meaning and purpose.

The festival of Pentecost, with the coming of the Holy Spirit, is associated with the signs of wind and fire and the miraculous power to speak the Gospel in a way that everyone could understand. But in John 20:19-23, we hear of a quieter breathing out of the Spirit on the afternoon of Easter. Jesus comes to those who are locked behind walls of fear, and with the power of grace, sends us out into freedom.

We often want God to change the world around us. But what Jesus is most often up to is changing the world within us. Jesus does want to transform the world, but his method is to send out transformed people to demonstrate what is grace can do. In this sermon from Acts 1:6-14, Pastor Eric challenges us to let Jesus do his saving work in us, so that he can then bring redeeming power to the world through us.

As Jesus says farewell to his disciples in John 14:15-21, before his crucifixion and resurrection, he gives them the promise of “another Advocate” to come. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores what that means, and how the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, enlivens us today both as individual followers of Jesus and as the church, together.

Jesus says, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life." These words can be a scandal and an offense in our day and age because they might seem exclusive. In this sermon from John 14:1-14, Pastor Eric challenges those notions and encourages us to find confidence, not in our ideas about Jesus, but in Jesus' own words about himself.

The Gospel of John is filled with wonderful promises from Jesus, such as “I am the light of the world,” “I am the bread of life,” and “I am the good shepherd.” In today’s reading from John 10:1-10, Jesus says, “I am the gate for the sheep.” This lesser-known promise teaches us a lot about ourselves and our Lord. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores how Jesus as the gate for the sheep is good news. She invites listeners to remember their baptism as the entrance to a relationship with Jesus and into the abundant life he offers. This sermon also reminds worshipers how Holy Communion strengthens their faith and allows them to leave the flock after worship, taking the good news of Jesus’ love with them into their daily lives in the world.

What story are you living in? We've all got stories. The nostalgia story. The "gotta make more money" story. The "I'm not good enough" story. Our stories define our reality. And what can be dangerous is when our stories don't match reality. In our reading from Luke 24:13-35, two disciples of Jesus are stuck in a story that ends with Christ's death. Even when they get new information, they are still in an old story. But what happens when the Author steps in? Pastor Eric shows how a new story is given, in the breaking of bread.

Christ is Risen! We hope that this worship service will help you experience the joy and victory of Christ’s resurrection. You can use the buttons above to download a bulletin to help you follow along with the service and go to our YouTube channel for online worship. If you haven’t yet participated in our online Maundy Thursday or Good Friday services, they are available on YouTube and will prepare you to more fully celebrate Easter’s promise. Our daily devotional guide is taking a 2-week “vacation.”

Christ is Risen! The Easter story from Matthew 28:1-10 emphasizes how zealously Jesus’ opponents tried to keep his body sealed away in the tomb. But nothing could stop God’s power to raise his Son up from death to life. In this sermon, Pastor Paige invites listeners to consider times when they’ve felt like their hopes and dreams were blocked by obstacles too big to be overcome. She then shares the good news that because God raised Jesus to new life and allowed him to burst out of the tomb, there is nothing God cannot do. We have received the gift of the forgiveness of sins and eternal life thanks to Jesus’ death and resurrection. Now nothing can come between us and the hopeful future God has planned for us. That’s the great news we have to share with one another and the world. Christ is Risen, indeed! Alleluia!

April 6 & 7, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday

Thursday night’s service will be live streamed at 7:30pm. The name “Maundy Thursday” comes from the Latin mandatum, for “command,” as we remember Jesus’ command to his disciples in the Upper Room that they love one another as he has loved them. In this service we also commemorate the institution of Holy Communion, offer individual laying on of hands for forgiveness, and have a symbolic foot washing ceremony. You are encouraged to watch through to the end of this service, as it concludes with the stripping of the altar, symbolic of Christ’s humiliation during his arrest and trial.

Good Friday’s service, also live streamed at 7:30pm, includes brief reflections on the “Seven Last Words” of Jesus from the cross, preached by a number of different pastors.

The recordings of the live streams for both services will remain available on YouTube, but will not be re-posted on Facebook or this web page.

After the service, we invite you to fill out an online response card here. Also, if you are able, we invite you to partner with us by financially supporting Reformation here. Your generosity allows us to bring the hope of Jesus to Milford and beyond. Thank you!

Palm Sunday (also "the Sunday of the Passion") carries bad news about us and good news for us. The chilling words of the crowds calling for Christ's crucifixion, "His blood be on us and on our children," carry depths of meaning. In this sermon on the Passion (or "suffering") of Christ, Pastor Eric invites us to contemplate the deep mystery of Christ's sacrifice for us.
