The name for this day, Maundy Thursday, comes from the Latin word "mandatum," or "command." We remember Jesus' command to love one another as he first loves us. On this holy night, we engage in several special acts of worship: individual absolution (forgiveness) through the laying on of hands, ceremonial foot washing, and a remembrance of Jesus' institution of Holy Communion. In all these acts, we are drawn more deeply into the love of Christ. His love makes us whole, and sends us out to bring wholeness to the world around us.

In our reading today from John 12:1-8, Mary pours out a year's wage's worth of perfume on the feet of Jesus, behaving in a way that would have scandalized everyone around her. Why did she do it? How did she do it? Mary had no fear. In this sermon, learn why, and how her story can help you to live in courage and joy.

“Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?” With this question from the prophet Isaiah, God asks us what we are chasing. What we are giving our time, attention, energy, even money to. Is it truly good? Will it satisfy you? There is a spiritual feast that will fill our souls to overflowing and give us a purpose that none of the world's distractions can offer. Jesus can heal, restore, and renew your life. Together, let us turn to him.

The story of Abram and God in Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18 isn’t a very familiar one, but it highlights the goodness that comes from trusting God’s promises. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores the lengths God goes to in order to get Abram’s attention and help him embrace the plans God has for him, his descendants, and all of God’s children. If you’ve ever wondered about faith, doubt, and your future, you’ll want to hear Abram’s story.

On the first Sunday in Lent, we follow Jesus into the desert where, for 40 days, he faces temptation. In this sermon based on Luke 4:1-13, Pastor Eric invites us to see the lies that temptation offers us, and to walk in the truth that Jesus alone can give.

Jesus shocked his three closest disciples with his Transfiguration. On a mountaintop, a quiet moment of Jesus praying turned into a vision of the Son of God shining with a brilliant light. As Pastor Paige explores in this sermon on Luke 9:28-36, the Transfiguration brings us to the highest and brightest moment of Jesus’ glory, before Ash Wednesday begins his journey to his cross. The Transfiguration offers the opportunity for us to get to see Jesus in a new way. It gives us a chance to get to know him better, before he travels down the road that leads to his death and resurrection, for our sake, and for the salvation of all people.

In today's Gospel reading (Luke 6:27-38), Jesus commands us to "love your enemies." How far our world has strayed from this will of God. But in a society where we have a hard time tolerating people who look or vote differently than we do, how can "love your enemies" become real? Reflecting on Jesus' instruction to "turn the other cheek," Pastor Eric helps us to see how the love of Christ restores our humanity, allowing us to show others what God's love truly looks like.

The Apostle Paul had his hands full writing letters to the churches he’d founded, answering their questions, and helping solve their conflicts. In today’s second reading, the Corinthians are confused about the resurrection, the foundation of the Christian faith. Paul writes to help them understand the truth that just as Christ was raised from the dead, they would be raised, also. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores the apostle’s practical advice for living out their faith and sharing their hope in Jesus’ resurrection with others.

Our three readings today (Isaiah 6:1-8, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, and Luke 5:1-11) all show us heroes of the faith confessing their sinfulness, and even, like Peter, asking Jesus to go away from him because of his fear. Should we be terrified of God? How does God react to our faults and flaws, and even to our fear? Today's sermon will challenge and encourage you to come to know the love of God even more deeply.

On this Sunday of Reformation's annual meeting, Pastor Eric moves through our three readings to see how each one reveals not only our culture's consumerist mentality, but also how God's grace is the antidote. The mindset says that church is for me, that faith is individual, and that if someone loves us, they will agree with what we already think we know or feel or believe. But there is a more noble path: the life of self-giving love poured out for us in the grace of Jesus.

What memorable weddings have you attended? Have you ever been to a wedding where the hosts ran out of food, drink, or—gasp—cake? Today’s Gospel reading from John 2:1-11 is a vivid story from a wedding where things didn’t go as planned. In this sermon, Pastor Paige shares how, with Jesus in attendance, there was more joy and abundance than the guests or even the bride and groom could have anticipated. At this wedding, Jesus performs his first sign, or miracle, in the Gospel of John. It’s an experience that reveals Jesus’ glory and brings the disciples to faith. It’s a new year! Does it still feel like it? Some people call January 10 “Quitters’ Day,” because so many people drop their new year’s resolutions by then. This Sunday is the festival of the Baptism of Our Lord, marking the beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry. It’s a good day, at the start of January, to think about new beginnings. What are you hoping for in 2025? What might God be intending for this new year? We hope you are encouraged and challenged in your faith by today’s sermon.

During the Christmas season, we hear many names for the infant Jesus, including newborn King, Wonderful Counselor, and Prince of Peace. At the end of the 12 days of Christmas, John 1:1-18 gives us yet another way of naming our Savior and Lord. Jesus is “the Word” who “became flesh and lived among us.” What difference does that name make for our faith and for our lives as Jesus' disciples? In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores that question. She also shares good news about our new name, a name made possible by Jesus being born among us.

Merry Christmas! Welcome to Reformation’s online Christmas Eve worship as we celebrate the birth of God made flesh, Jesus Christ. We hope that this time of music, Scripture, prayer, preaching, candlelight, and praise will open your heart to the wonder of the Christ Child.

In the Christmas Gospel of Luke 2:1-20, we see Emperor Augustus showing his control over the world by calling a registration. “Control” is such a human response to fear, pain, or uncertainty. But we also see the actions of another, heavenly King, who sees the brokenness of our lost world, but does not respond by taking control. In the birth of Jesus, something so much greater than control is found. In him, there is healing, hope, and salvation. Come, let us adore him!

In Luke 3:7-18, John the Baptist gives a fiery message of repentance. But what if he isn’t just an angry scold? What if he is “preparing the way” for new life, hope, joy, and peace? That is what the Savior brings. But if we keep on doing what we’ve always done, thinking how we’ve always thought, and making the same choices we’ve always made, we will end up rejecting the Christ child when he comes. Our “operating system” needs an update. Our system needs to be rebooted. John the Baptist shows the way.
