If you’ve ever had a sense that God made you for more, today’s readings from Isaiah 5:1-7 and Matthew 21:33-46 will encourage you. Both readings are about vineyards and harvests. In this sermon, Pastor Paige draws upon the memory of an important person from her childhood to show that when we trust in all that Jesus has done for us, God produces good fruit in us. God creates an abundant harvest for the sake of our neighbors, through us and through the life of our church, as the body of Christ, together.

"Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others.” In Philippians 2:1-13, Paul challenges the "me-centered" shape of life that has our culture anxious, angry, and isolated. But he not only offers a critique, he offers a cure, a call into a higher life of purpose, meaning, and empowerment. In this sermon, Pastor Eric looks at the pressure to live a "closed-in circle" life, and invites us to allow Jesus to stretch us into an... eccentric life.

Today’s parable from Matthew 20:1-16 is incredibly timely for our lives. Our society and culture make us hyper focused on accounting for every bit of time we work and receiving every last penny we deserve. With the parable of the generous landowner, Jesus turns our ideas of earning, worthiness, and fairness upside down. In this sermon, Pastor Paige dives into Jesus’ story and how it invites us to experience new ways to be generous. When we orient our lives toward God’s generosity and receive his grace as a gift, we can increase the peace and joy we experience and pass God’s love on to others.

Matthew 18 contains Jesus' teaching about reconciliation and forgiveness. But he isn't just giving relationship advice; he is charting the course for the integrity of the Christian community and for our growth in spiritual and personal maturity. In this sermon based on Matthew 18:21-35, Pastor Eric reaches back to last week's Gospel on the process for reconciliation that Jesus commands, and looks at how this week's words can point us to the strength and compassion to put that process into practice. What is essential is not what we do, but what has been done for us: the life-giving mercy of Jesus has been poured out on you. His love is what makes our healthy relationships possible.

There are many ways to explore what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. In this sermon on Matthew 16:21-28, Pastor Paige focuses on Jesus’ promise, “‘those who lose their life for my sake will find it.’” What kind of life is Jesus inviting us into? What role do other people play? Why is the life Jesus offers better than anything we could come up with on our own? These are some of the questions Pastor Paige addresses as she encourages listeners to ground their lives of discipleship in a community. Serving alongside other disciples of all ages is the best way to discover the abundant life that is ours through Jesus.

It might sound a bit irreverent to think of God's will in terms of a car salesman's pitch, but even more so if the salesman won't let you test drive the car until you buy it! What's going on? In this sermon based on Romans 12:1-8, Pastor Eric challenges us to see how the world's way of "all-about-me" thinking keeps us trapped in a life far smaller than what God has created us for, and encourages us to entrust ourselves to Jesus, who gives us a life of freedom and glory. Not only is that "glory" very different than what the world would call glory, but it is also discovered in a very different way.

When faced with rejection and the word “No” over and over again, it’s easy to feel discouraged. In today’s gospel reading from Matthew 15:21-28, we hear about a woman who came to Jesus with a dire need. She wouldn’t take No for an answer. In this sermon, Pastor Paige unpacks what we can learn from her persistence about ourselves, our ultimate future, and our Lord. She explores how we can trust in Jesus enough to not give up.

.Jesus’ Parable of the Sower gives us the opportunity to be honest about the obstacles to faith we face in our busy modern lives. In this sermon, Pastor Paige invites listeners to reflect on the different types of soil Jesus talks about in Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23, and on the things that get in the way of God’s word sinking deep into their hearts. Jesus’ parable ends with an abundant harvest. That harvest is possible for us when we trust in Jesus to help us overcome obstacles to faith. No matter what kinds of soil we’ve been in the past, when we open our ears to God’s word and believe his promises, he will help our faith to grow. It will become fruitful for the sake of those God calls us to serve.

One of the reasons why life can be so exhausting in our day is that there is an expectation that we will say the right things or send the right messages to show that "I'm one of the good people." In Matthew 11:16-19 & 25-30, Jesus speaks to this cultural expectation that we "perform" our virtue for others to approve. It'll never work. In this sermon, Pastor Eric lifts up Jesus' invitation for us to find rest in him and learn his ways of wisdom.

While this sermon stands alone, it also serves as a Part 2 to Pastor Paige’s June 18 sermon, “Harvest Season.” The two weeks cover the beginning and the conclusion of Jesus’ instructions to his disciples for the mission work he sends them out to do in his name. In today’s sermon, focusing on Matthew 10:40-42, Jesus encourages the disciples by telling them that when people welcome them, they are welcoming Jesus. When they welcome Jesus, they are welcoming Jesus’ heavenly Father, who sent him. This is also a reassuring message for us as Jesus’ disciples today. Pastor Paige helps listeners recognize the strength of their own connections and urges them to open their hearts to receive God’s rich rewards, as we carry out Jesus’ mission in the places where we live and serve.

In John 8, Jesus calls himself "the light of the world." In today's sermon, Pastor Eric invites us to see ourselves, God, our neighbors, and the world all in the light of Jesus. In today’s story from Matthew 9:35-10:20, Jesus trusts his disciples with big responsibilities: to cure diseases, cast out demons, and share the good news that God’s Kingdom has come near. Because God’s harvest is so plentiful, Jesus invites the disciples to join him in his work of freeing people from fear and giving them the hope and peace they long for. In this sermon, Pastor Paige explores how Jesus calls and equips his closest friends to be his ambassadors. Jesus continues to call and equip us as his apostles, too. Together, we can spread the good news of the risen Jesus’ love and grace, and invite more people to experience the joy of God’s kingdom.

There is a human temptation to minimize suffering and to minimize sin, whether our own or others'. We don't want to face hard truths. But in our Gospel reading today from Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26, we see that the love and grace of Jesus is greater than even the hardest of truths. In a culture so driven by shame, blame, and fear, the mercy of Jesus gives us the freedom to be honest, and the hope that he can make us new.

Trinity Sunday comes around every year. It can be a challenge to grasp the one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In this sermon, Pastor Paige draws upon images of the Trinity from the Apostle Paul’s farewell in 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, and from Jesus’ last words to his disciples in Matthew 28:16-20, to help hearers experience the way our faith in the Triune God shapes our identity and gives our lives meaning and purpose.

The festival of Pentecost, with the coming of the Holy Spirit, is associated with the signs of wind and fire and the miraculous power to speak the Gospel in a way that everyone could understand. But in John 20:19-23, we hear of a quieter breathing out of the Spirit on the afternoon of Easter. Jesus comes to those who are locked behind walls of fear, and with the power of grace, sends us out into freedom.
